This stunning executive desk meticulously crafted by Claude Clémaron is based on the iconic and rare 901 Executive Desk created in 1959 by renowned Danish architect and furniture designer Bodil Kjaer. The desk rose to fame when it was featured in three James Bond movies: From Russia With Love (1963), You Only Live Twice (1967), On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969); and more recently Kingsman (2014).
Owners of this commanding desk have included Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh (at Sandringham), Michael Caine and pianist Oscar Peterson.
A furniture piece with a licence to thrill
The freestanding desk was designed to work well with modern art and architecture.
A slimline, rectangular timber cassette platform, which seems to float in mid-air, has four recessed lockable drawers with conforming blind recessed frieze to the reverse raised on a light chrome base. Its sleek form and fine proportions have made it highly desirable, and it has been classed as ‘The most beautiful desk in the world’.
Simple, strong and no-nonsense – these three principles define Bodil Kjaer’s work. Born in 1932, she is the trailblazer of Danish mid-century design and was inspired by the ‘less is more’ philosophy of the modernist movement. Her pared-back and effortlessly cool pieces still work beautifully for contemporary lifestyles 60 years on.
